In biathlon there are many dedicated people – individuals driven by a strong desire to develop the sport and who invest a great deal of time and effort to help other athletes improve. One such person is David Palopää from Arjeplog, Sweden.
For me, David is not only a skilled developer of biathlon equipment – he is also a good friend and someone who truly has a passion for the sport.
The story behind Palopää Skidskytte actually began within the family. When David’s daughter Line started to take biathlon more seriously, they quickly realized that the equipment available on the market did not always fit the athlete’s body or individual needs.
A stock that was purchased to improve her standing shooting turned out to be difficult to adjust and did not fit properly. That became the starting point for a project where David began experimenting and developing his own solutions.
At first he built stocks from wood. Later he started using modern technology, developing new designs with 3D printing and carbon fiber reinforcements.
What began as a way to help his own daughter soon grew into something much bigger.
When Line began competing with the new stock, it attracted attention. Many people became curious about the solution and saw that it worked very well in practice.
More and more athletes started asking David for help.
This is how the idea gradually grew into a business and Palopää Skidskytte was born.
The philosophy behind the work is quite simple:
every biathlete is different – therefore equipment should be adaptable to the individual athlete.
In my opinion – and according to many people in the Swedish biathlon community – David builds some of the best biathlon rifle stocks in Sweden.
The combination of modern 3D-printed technology, carbon fiber construction and extensive possibilities for individual adjustment makes the stocks light, stable and very well thought through.
It is not just about creating something new – it is about creating equipment that actually works in real shooting conditions on the range.
David does not only work with rifle stocks. He also develops various components and solutions that make equipment more functional and better adapted for the athlete.
Several of the 3D-printed products sold through Skidskytteexperten are developed and produced by David.
It is a collaboration that I truly appreciate. Innovation that grows out of real experience from the sport is often the best kind of innovation.
One of the things I appreciate most about biathlon is that the sport is built by so many dedicated people – athletes, coaches, parents, volunteers and individuals like David who develop equipment and ideas that help move the sport forward.
These are the people who drive the development of the sport.
